A creature could go pretty much anywhere under the water unnoticed if they were quiet and deliberate enough with their movements. Traits that came more naturally to some than to others. The trick was a gentle submersion - none of this foolish flapping around like a duck on the surface. Just a smooth, glide with nary a ripple to betray you.
