This piece was inspired by the sandhill cranes we saw as we drove up to northern Ontario last summer. I had never seen them before, and their size and colouring was very striking even just as a quick glance as we drove by. When I started researching them and found out they typically mate for life, I knew I needed to paint them as a pair. 

This moody romantic colouring turned out to be just what I needed to evoke that warm feeling of being with the person who makes anywhere feel like home.
