Diary of a Jungle Gym
This is a feeling I remember very vividly from when my kids were younger - the feeling that you exist to be climbed on, accidently punched in the face, and kicked suspiciously hard by clambering toddlers. It's a mixed feeling because of the constant reminders to "treasure these moments" - contrasting with the fact that you are getting kneed in the face.
Now that my kids are a bit older, I do miss how simple this age was. No complicated emotions or social issues - just a kid who wants to get from one place to another as painfully as possible. (That being said I very much appreciate not getting kicked in the face and getting to sleep through the night).
So this piece to me is a bit of a time capsule to remember those moments that, like a lot of parenting, are painful in the moment and beautiful in the rearview mirror.
